How do I change my major?
To officially change your major you need to fill out a change of
major form in the Registrar's office. If you are changing your
degree program you will be assigned a new advisor at that time.
How do I change my advisor?
To officially change your advisor you need to fill out a change
of advisor form in the Office of the Registrar.
How do I know who my advisor is?
An advisor is assigned to each student at the time of
registration. An admissions counselor initially assigns you a
faculty member in the area of study you choose. If you do not know
who your advisor is go to Student Services and they can give you
the name of your current advisor.
When do I need to see my academic advisor?
There are various times throughout a semester when you should
see your advisor. Here are a few suggestions on when to make
appointments.
When you need to:
- Register for the next semester's classes.
- Make appropriate course selections each semester
- Discuss general education requirements and your academic
progress
- Discuss any problems which may affect your academic
performance
- Add or drop a course
- Check on graduation requirements and obtain transfer
information
- Discuss career considerations
I am unsure of what I want to do with my life. Is there
anyone on campus who can help?
There are various resources on campus to help you make a career
decision. The Assessment Center has several career interest
inventories and other tests clarifying students' abiltities. The
Career Planning and Placement Center works in cooperation with the
Assessment Center to provide students with updated information
through results of career exploration inventories. They have
information regarding emplyment outlook, education requirements,
and estimated wages and salaries. There are also Counselors
available on campus to help students with personal issues effecting
their academic and career choices.
When is the last day to drop a class?
Courses may be dropped without grade penalty anytime through the
10th week of the semester. For courses dropped during this time,
the student will receive a grade of "W". Following the 10th week of
the semester, individual courses may be dropped only with
permission of the instructor.
Can a classroom Physical Education course be substituted
for a PE activity course to fullfill graduation
requirements?
No, the class must be a physical education activity course in
order to fill the graduation requirements. If you are over the age
of 23 when you begin at SWCC the PE activity credits are
waived.
