The Automotive
Mechanics Technology program at Southwestern offers the student
comprehensive training in automotive maintenance and repair with a
hands-on approach. The curriculum is geared toward ASE
certification. Students will learn theory, diagnostics, and repair
procedures in basic automotive areas. The first year certificate
includes studies in automotive electrical circuits, brakes,
suspensions, alignment, and air conditioning and heating systems.
The advanced certificate course work includes instruction in the
diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of fuel systems, engine repair,
electronic engine controls, and advanced techniques in the service
and repair of brake and suspension systems.
Course work and credits earned can be articulated into advanced
studies in Automotive Repair at other institutions or into the Auto
Collision Repair A.A.S. degree program at Southwestern.
Demand in high for men and women automotive mechanics trained to
perform maintenance and repairs on today's high tech automobiles.
In fact, basic maintenance and light repair are the fastest growing
segments in automotive mechanical repairs. Salaries and benefit
packages reflect this need as independent repair shops,
dealerships, and franchised shops are employing technicians
specializing in one day repair.
