Southwestern weathers the storm
Southwestern took on Southeast CC from Nebraska in the second game
of the pizza ranch classic. The game was nip and tuck the entire first
half. With 10 minutes to go it was 19-17 SECC. SWCC would come back
to take a small lead, but would see themselves trailing 33-32 at the
half.
SECC came out of the locker room ready to go and jumped out to a
47-37 lead with 12 minutes to go. The Spartans would fight back to
take a 66-60 with 3 minutes to go. SWCC couldn’t capitalize
from the free throw line down the stretch and allowed SECC to tie
the game 66-66 on a free throw with 1.2 seconds. SWCC would then jump
on the Storm in the overtime and was able to convert their free throws
at the end for a final score 77-71.
Terrance Morgan lead the team in scoring with 24 points. Tyler Raasch
had 13, Laurice Ellison 12, and Royce Phillips and Wil Wilson each
had 10 points. The Spartans are now off until the new year when they
will go on the road to take on Clinton in their first regional game.
