Buck Scheel - Head Coach

Jeremiah “Buck” Scheel is entering his first year as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach for the Southwestern Community College Spartans. Coach Scheel is a recent graduate of Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Business Management with an emphasis in Marketing.

While at Waldorf College, Coach Scheel was co-captain for two years with the Warriors and also served as a Student Assistant Coach for one season. During Coach Scheel’s senior season, he helped the Warriors achieve their first winning season in NAIA Division II competition, along with advancing to the Midwest Classic Conference championship game.

Prior to Waldorf College, Coach Scheel played Junior College basketball for Hamilton College, formerly known as Lincoln School of Commerce. While at Lincoln School of Commerce, Coach Scheel was co-captain for two years and helped lead the team to its first twenty win season in school history. Coach Scheel received his Associates Degree in Business Administration from Lincoln School of Commerce.

Coach Scheel is originally from Columbus, Nebraska.

Janelle Higgins - Assistant Coach

Coach Higgins begins her first season as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach. She is a graduate of Southwestern and is currently a student at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville majoring in K-12 PE Health and athletic training.

Other coaching experience includes assistant softball for Saydel High School (Des Moines), assistant basketball and head softball for high school and middle school at Northeast Nodaway High School in Ravenwood, MO, and assistant volleyball & basketball and head track for Colo-Nesco Middle School.

Coach Higgins will play a major role in recruiting and player development.
