What is Developmental Studies?

Southwestern's Comprehensive Learning Center provides individualized instruction for students wanting to upgrade their skills in the areas of reading, math, communications, and study.

Office Hours
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM Monday - Thursday (Fall and Spring Semester)
7:30 AM - 2:30 PM Monday - Thursday (May and June)



Credit Courses
Individualized courses offered in the Learning Center include:
  • RDG 005: RDG 110 Reading and Study Skills
  • MAT 080: MAT 083 Math Skills
  • ENG 040: ENG 043 Communication Skills

These one-credit hour courses are designed to meet the unique needs of individual students.


Additional Courses
Additional courses designed to prepare students for the demands of college include:
  • SDV 114 Strategies For Academic Success
  • ENG 020 College Writing Skills
  • MAT 041 Basic College Mathematics
  • MAT 052 Pre-Algebra

    These three-credit hour courses will give students the opportunity to learn, practice, and apply the skills necessary for success.
