Financial Aid Timeline

November & December

  • Apply for admission
  • High School students attend Financial Aid Night if offered at your school
  • Search for scholarships and other outside resources
    • SWCC Education Foundation Scholarship application available
  • SWCC students complete exit counseling if graduating or leaving SWCC and have received loans

January

  • Complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov
  • List SWCC to receive FAFSA information

February

  • Respond to any requests from SWCC in regards to your processed FAFSA

March

  • Complete summer application for financial aid if planning on attending first summer session

April

  • Begin processing estimated award packets for first-time freshman
  • Complete exit counseling if graduating or leaving SWCC and have received loans
  • New students sign up for Success Seminar (freshman orientation)
  • Begin selecting Education Foundation Scholarship recipients
  • Update FAFSA with actual income filed with IRS

May

  • New students request final transcripts to be sent to SWCC from high school or other colleges attended
  • Spring Graduation
  • Complete exit counseling if graduating in June and have received loans
  • Begin processing official financial aid award packets

June

  • Summer Graduation
  • Complete FAFSA prior to state aid deadline of July 1
  • Begin processing award packets for returning students

July

  • Attend Success Seminar (freshman orientation)
  • College bills are sent; federal aid awarded will appear on the bill but will not credit until after fall semester has started
  • Return award packet materials, if requested
  • Complete entrance counseling if borrowing student loan
  • Complete master promissory note (first-time loan), if requested

August

  • Attend Success Seminar (freshman orientation)
  • Classes begin
  • Contact private/outside donors or other resources for payment to SWCC
