Creston, IA, MARCH 26, 2010--Students from approximately 13 high schools were on Southwestern Community College's campus on Friday, March 26, 2010, for the 2010 Automotive Open House. As a part of the event, many of the visiting students competed in the college's annual high school collision/welding contest. Cameron Hester from Panorama High School took first place honors in the competition. Logan Taylor of Villisca placed second and Nick Gross from Panorama High School placed third.
Two high schools were also big winners at the end of the day. Panorama High School received a wire welder for having the top student in the welding competition and Villisca High School won a wire welder in a drawing.
The Automotive Open House is held each year during March to give students the opportunity to tour SWCC's automotive facilities and meet with program instructors. SWCC offers one- and two-year programs in automotive collision repair and automotive repair technology. Starting with the fall 2010 semester, SWCC will also offer a program in welding.
