SWCC will host its annual Community Awareness Day on Wednesday, September 10, from 9-11 a.m. in the main hallway of the Instructional Center. A variety of community agencies will be on hand to provide information to SWCC students and staff about the services they provide.
Agencies that will be providing information include:
- Crest Area for Life
- Crisis Intervention and Advocacy Center
- First National Bank
- Iowa Works
- Life Care Pregnancy Center
- Neighbors Loving Neighbors Outreach
- PCSB Bank
- TRiO--Student Support Services
- Vocational Rehabilitation
During the Iowa Association for Lifelong Learning (IALL) Summer Conference, held July 16-17 in Ames, Kim Oaks, SWCC business coordinator, received the Distinguished Service Award.
Iowa Governor Terry Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds (shown in photo above) were at Southwest Valley High School in Corning for a town hall meeting to talk about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) on Tues., May 6, 2014.
The discussion was followed by STEM-related activities and demonstrations by students and their teachers.

Two big Pay it Forward (PIF) Week activities took place in the last two days. Both ended up extremely successful.
On Tues., April 22, the SWCC Student Senate hosted a Red Cross Blood Drive. The goal of the Blood Drive was to raise at least 43 units of blood. By the end of the day, the Red Cross went home with 55 units of blood; therefore, the Student Senate finished 12 units above goal for the day!! Thanks to all the donors and volunteers who made this day a success!
Get involved! Whether you Pay it Forward on your own, with a group of friends, or during one of the large group activities, encourage positive behaviors and service to the community throughout the week.
