The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) carpentry club will be hosting a free will donation ham dinner on Wed., December 16, from 5:30-8 p.m. in the Spartan Café in the college’s Student Center. The dinner will include ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, baked beans, and a drink.

Proceeds from the free will donation will go toward the carpentry club and the club’s planned trip to south Texas in February to assist with a Habitat for Humanity home-building project.

The Spartan softball team is hosting a craft and game event for children ages pre-school through fifth grade on Sun., December 13, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., in the Student Center gymnasium.

CRESTON — The Trio Educational Talent Search (ETS) program at Southwestern Community College is offering free ACT Test Prep Courses for all ETS high school participants the morning of Sat., January 9, 2016.    

Two options are available for students who attend:  
Option 1 – 9 a.m. to noon.  Students who choose Option 1 will be participating in a mock exam consisting of similar conditions as the official ACT exam.  
Option 2 – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Students who choose Option 2 will attend three break-out sessions (math, English/reading, and science).  

Snacks will be provided to all registrants.  The deadline for signing up will be Thursday, January 7.  Students can sign up through their ETS advisor or by calling 800.247.4023, ext. 392, or locally at 641.782.1392.  

Trio Educational Talent Search is 100 percent federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education.  More than 800 students in eight schools are served by the ETS program.  The program’s offices are located on Southwestern Community College’s Creston campus. The goal of the ETS program is to encourage students to go to college.

The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Chamber Singers will be presenting Holiday Carols in Concert in the SWCC Performing Arts Center on Sun., December 13, at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets prices for the Creston concert are $10 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens.
