Southwestern’s Board of Trustees Holds November Meeting

Creston--The Southwestern Community College board of trustees held its monthly board meeting on Tuesday, November 11, 2008.  During the meeting, Matt Thompson, SWCC dean of student services, and Marilyn Werner, assessment center coordinator, presented the 2008 Student Demographic Report to the board.  The study included data pertaining to the 1,468 students attending Southwestern during the fall 2008 semester.According to information collected during the study, the college's student body is made up of 62 percent females and 38 percent males. Of the 1,468 students attending SWCC this fall, 1,375 are Iowa residents.  This year, 15 percent of the high school graduates from Area 14, SWCC’s merged area, are attending Southwestern.  For fall 2008, 542 students are enrolled in at least one online class.  This is up from 434 students in fall 2007.In other business, Teresa Krejci reported the student constructed house has been shown but there are currently no offers to be considered on the house.  Ken Rech, board president, informed the board the American Community College Trustees (ACCT) National Legislative Summit will be held February 9-11, 2009, in Washington, D.C.  If the board has members interested in attending, it will be discussed at a future board meeting.Following adjournment, SWCC board members walked to the Learning Resource Center (LRC) to survey the damage to the windows of the library.  This damage was caused by high winds at the end of October.
