SWCC Students Headed to National PAS Competition
CRESTON--Two Southwestern Community College (SWCC) students will be competing at the National Postsecondary Agricultural Student Organization (PAS) conference in Hershey, PA, from March 11-14. They earned the right to compete nationally by placing first in their respective competitions during Iowa's PAS conference, which was held at DMACC in Ankeny in early-February.
Katie Leusink, freshman from Hawarden, placed first during statewide competition in the impromptu speaking category. Austin Brandt, freshman from Corning, placed first in the job interview category for ag sales.
Other individuals from SWCC receiving high honors during statewide competition included Elley Neuzil, freshman from Ainsworth, third place in prepared speaking; Stephen Smith,freshman from Runnells, second place in fruits and vegetables; Sadie Kay, freshman from Laramie, WY, third place in ag education; Joe Bair, freshman from Elkhart, third place in feed and livestock health; and in team competition third place overall went to Bair, Brandt, and Sean Cronkleton, sophomore from Donahue.
Also, during the statewide PAS conference, two SWCC students were elected as state officers: Austin Brandt was elected as Iowa PAS president and Leusink was elected as Iowa PAS vice-president.
