CRESTON-- Creston, IA—Two students from Southwestern Community College’s (SWCC) agricultural department placed in national competition at the Post-Secondary Ag Student Organization (PAS) Spring Conference, March 10-14, in Hershey, PA. The students earned their way to the competition by placing first in their respective categories at the Iowa PAS competition in February.
Austin Brandt, SWCC freshman from Corning, placed fifth nationally in the job interview category for ag sales. Katie Leusink, SWCC freshman from Hawarden, placed ninth nationally during competition in the impromptu speaking category.
Deron Shawley, SWCC ag instructor, is the advisor for SWCC's PAS students. SWCC offers two-year agricultural program options including agricultural business and ag production technology, as well as the ag transfer program for students planning to continue their studies at a four-year college or university.
