Jones Wins Statewide Award for Excellence in Online Instruction
Marsha Jones, Southwestern Community College online biology/anatomy instructor, was awarded the e11 Excellence in Online Instruction Award at the 2009 Iowa Community College Online Consortium (ICCOC) Spring Conference in West Des Moines on Monday, March 30.
Jones, who is from Ellston, serves as Southwestern's online faculty trainer and teaches introductory biology, nutrition, and genetics online. The award was granted for her introductory biology course.
“Marsha embodies the pioneering spirit of online education," stated Doug Greene, SWCC's director of distance education. "She has taken a subject that is difficult to teach online and made it engaging, assessable, challenging, and interactive."
According to Greene, she is one of a handful of educators who has worked with the Iowa community college online initiative from day one.
Jones award includes a trip to the Center for Internet Technology in Education (CiTE) National eCollege Users Conference in April 2010. At the 2010 national conference, she will be ICCOC’s candidate for the National Excellence in Online Teaching Award.
The Iowa Community College Online Consortium is a group of seven Iowa community colleges who collaborate to offer online courses and degrees. Southwestern has been a part of the consortium since its inception in 2000.
