SWCC’s Tech Prep Program Receives Donation From Area
CRESTON — The Southwest Iowa Area Health Education Center (AHEC) recently awarded Southwestern Community College’s Tech Prep program more than $5,500 to assist high school students interested in taking the Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA) program.
A portion of the funds will be used to allow low income students to take the CNA exam. The remaining funds will be used to purchase CNA textbooks and equipment for SWCC’s Career Academy students. SWCC has health-related Career Academy programs for high school students in Afton, Creston, Greenfield, Lenox, Leon, Mount Ayr, Orient-Macksburg, Osceola, Red Oak, Stanton, and Villisca.
The AHEC office is located in Leon and serves 17 counties in the southern and southwestern parts of the state. Their purpose is to increase access to healthcare in southern Iowa. AHEC is funded by Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) through the University of Iowa.
