World Renowned Vocal Groups to Headline SWCC Vocal Jazz FestCreston, IOWA—Two world renowned vocal groups, Rajaton from Finland and M-pact from Los Angeles, will headline the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) 13th Annual Vocal Jazz Fest concerts on Friday, February 26, and Saturday, February 27, at 7:30 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center. Limited tickets will be available to the public each night at a cost of $25 per ticket.
Rajaton was founded in Helsinki in 1997. Performances in the United States are very rare. Altogether the group has one double-platinum, two platinum, and five gold records. Their albums have sold more than 200,000 copies worldwide. Well-known pieces by Rajaton include “Butterfly,” “We Walk in a Fog,” and “Dobbin’s Flowery Vale."
M-pact was hailed as "one of the best pop-jazz vocal groups in the world" by the San Francisco Chronicle. The group is respected worldwide as a cutting edge trailblazer in a cappella music. Touring renowned fine arts halls and jazz festivals across four continents, M-pact has performed with pop superstars such as Sheryl Crow, Boyz II Men, Liza Minnelli, and Babyface, as well as with jazz legends from Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Bobby McFerrin, and Take 6, to the New York Voices.
According to Jeremy Fox, SWCC professional music instructor and one of the event organizers, this year’s jazz fest will be the college’s largest festival to-date. The event will encompass two full days of clinics and hands-on workshops. Approximately 40 high school and college ensembles from across the United States and Canada will participate in the festival.
