Shelby Woods, an accomplished sports shooter from Madison, MO, has committed to the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) sports shooting program for the 2014-15 academic year.
During high school, Woods was a member of the Madison FFA Trapshooting Team. She has received a number of FFA shooting honors including the 2010 Top Marksman Award for her shooting team; 2010 high overall score for the Area IV FFA Trapshooting Tournament; 2010-2014 high female in the FFA Trapshooting Tournament in Paris, MO; 2011 FFA Tournament, second place, lady’s high individual; 2011 FFA Tournament in Elsberry MO, first place, individual; 2012 FFA Tournament in Silex, MO, second place, lady individual; 2013 Tournament in Silex, MO, first place lady and first place high overall individual; and 2013 Tournament in Elsberry, MO, first place lady.
Morgan Knorr, a Southwestern Community College (SWCC) sophomore from Savannah, MO, recently received word she will be awarded an athletic scholarship to play basketball at the University of Illinois at Springfield, under the direction of second-year Head Coach Chad Oletzke, starting with the fall 2014 semester.
Knorr, a May 2012 graduate of Savannah High School, came to SWCC in the fall of 2012. This past season, Knorr led the SWCC team in scoring with 12 points per game. She averaged 3.8 rebounds and three assists per game. In addition to playing basketball for the SWCC Spartans, Knorr was a member of the college’s first-year sports shooting team during the 2013-14 academic year.
Two big Pay it Forward (PIF) Week activities took place in the last two days. Both ended up extremely successful.
On Tues., April 22, the SWCC Student Senate hosted a Red Cross Blood Drive. The goal of the Blood Drive was to raise at least 43 units of blood. By the end of the day, the Red Cross went home with 55 units of blood; therefore, the Student Senate finished 12 units above goal for the day!! Thanks to all the donors and volunteers who made this day a success!
Jared Theis (pictured) carded an 83 to pace the men’s golf team to a third-place finish at Brooks Golf Club in Okoboji Monday. Chasen Selsor, Jake Speer, and Angga Edwards were the other participants for the men. The women finished fourth, helped by a personal season best from Logan Kinyon. The women will play in Regional competition this Friday and Saturday at Otter Creek in Ankeny.
Late last week, Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Head Women’s Basketball Coach Addae Houston announced the latest recruit—Cambry Schluter of Hopkins, MO—for his 2014-15 Spartans basketball team.
Schluter, who will be a May 2014 graduate of North Nodaway High School, was an all-conference selection and a District 16 All-District Team selection her junior and senior years. She scored more than 1,000 career points for North Nodaway High School. In addition, Schluter is a member of the National Honor Society and made the Principal’s Honor Roll all four years of high school.
Southwestern Community College Head Softball Coach Lindsay Stumpff announced recently Brennan Banks of Wayne will be joining the Spartans softball program for the 2014-15 school year.
Banks, who will be a May 2014 graduate of Wayne Community High School, plays catcher and third base. During high school, she received all-conference outfield, all conference infield, all-district softball, all-state infield, and has been a four-year varsity letter winner. She has also excelled academically being named to the A Honor Roll, as well as being a member of the National Honor Society, the Wayne Athletic Leadership Council, and the Student Council.
Fremont-Mills High School athlete Ashley McClary is headed to Southwestern Community College (SWCC) to become a multi-sport athlete for the Spartans, playing basketball for Women’s Basketball Coach Addae Houston and throwing shot-put for Track and Field Coach Bill Huntington.
McClary was a part of Fremont-Mills’ 20-5 basketball team this past season, finishing first for the first-time ever in the Corner Conference Tournament. She is a member of the National Honor Society.

Addae Houston, Southwestern Community College (SWCC) head women’s basketball coach, recently added two strong athletes to his roster from Kansas City, MO.
Sabrina Fountain, a senior at Raytown South High School in Kansas City, was a 2014 Kansas City Suburban Conference Honorable Mention selection and a 2013 Kansas City Suburban Second Team All-Conference selection.
Sa’Lisa Berry, a senior at Abraham Lincoln High School in Des Moines, signed with Southwestern Community College (SWCC) this week and as of fall 2014 semester will be running track, as well as playing basketball for the Spartans.
During high school, Berry received a 2014 Metro Conference Honorable Mention selection, 2014 Iowa Elite Senior All Star Team selection, and the 2013 Captain Award for track and field.
Addae Houston, SWCC head women’s basketball coach, said Berry will give the Spartans great depth at the guard position. “Sa’Lisa is a solid shooter from the outside and knows how to create shots for others,” Houston stated.
