Christian Groumoutis sign with SWCC Golf

Christian Groumoutis, Creston High School golfer, will continue his athletic career at the collegiate level with the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) golf team, according to the Spartans’ Head Coach Larry Shimono.

Groumoutis, who will graduate from Creston High School in May, has been a four-year letter winner in football, basketball, and golf.

Auto Open House Banner

The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) automotive repair technology and collision repair/refinish programs have announced the 2015 Automotive Open House will be held Fri., April 10, 2015, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the automotive area in the Instructional Center.

During the Automotive Open House, visitors will be able to tour the automotive shops, meet the instructors, participate in a welding contest, compete in a tire changing contest, meet vendors, view vehicles in the car show, and enjoy food and fun.  Pre-registration is not required.

The Automotive Open House will be held in conjunction with SWCC's CTE Day, an event that gives potential students opportunities to explore the career and technical education programs at SWCC.

Brett Maxwell signs with SWCC Sports Shooting

Glenwood student-athlete Brett Maxwell has committed to the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) sports shooting program for the 2015-16 academic year.

Maxwell, who will graduate from Glenwood High School in May 2015, has participated in soccer, trap and skeet shooting, 4-H, and FFA during high school. He serves as vice president for his 4-H club.

Cole Campbell signs with Spartans

East Union High School golfer Cole Campbell has signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf for the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Spartans and Head Golf Coach Larry Shimono. Campbell will head to SWCC starting with the fall semester in August.

Pay It Forward Logo with CPR/AED Training

What if every second mattered in saving a life?  What would you do?  Pay it Forward and empower yourself NOW!

Your local insurance agents are combining efforts with Greater Regional Medical Center and Southwestern Community College (SWCC) to help educate and train our community members in CPR and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).  Throughout the month of April, FREE Heartsaver certification classes will be offered every Tuesday evening.  In addition, on Mon., April 20, from 6-8 p.m., there will be a FREE Community CPR/AED event at Creston High School. 

Participating insurance agencies include Tyler Insurance Services; American Family, Katie Turner; Carter Insurance Agency; Farm Bureau, Joe Calvin; Hometown Insurance; and State Farm, Ben Adamson.

Southwestern Community College students Dawn Daily and Zack Peppmeier were honored as members of the 2015 All-Iowa Academic Team during a recognition ceremony held Wed., March 4, 2015, at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown in Des Moines.

Southwestern Community College's (SWCC’s) auto collision repair/refinish program came home with first place honors in the Pedal Car Challenge, part of the 60th Annual O'Reilly Auto Parts World of Wheels, held February 27-March 1, 2015, at the Century Link Center in Omaha, NE.

Connor Giles signs with SWCC golf

Student-athlete Connor Giles, of Mount Ayr, has committed to Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Head Golf Coach Larry Shimono and the Spartan golf team for the 2015-16 academic year.

Giles, who will graduate from Mount Ayr High School in May, has played multiple sports in high school including football, golf, and basketball. He was named second team all-district for football his senior year.
