Joel Hartstack, of Corning, and Jamie Young, of Humeston, both automotive collision repair/refinish students, recently placed at the SkillsUSA competition at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) in Ankeny on Friday, April 28, 2017.

Hartstack, a second year auto collision repair/refinish student and 2012 graduate of Clarinda High School, placed first in the collision repair category. As a first place winner, he qualified to compete at nationals in Louisville, KY, on June 18-23.

Young, a first year auto collision repair/refinish student and a 2016 graduate of Mormon Trail High School, tied for first in refinishing but then came in second following the tie breaker.

According to its Web site, SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry representatives, working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA has a large number of contests that allow students to demonstrate their abilities against others from across the state.
