Each year the professional music department invites guest artists to facilitate clinics, workshops, and master classes.
Pianist Nicholas Roth is scheduled to be on campus Wed., April 27, 2011, for a solo concert and master class. Roth holds a doctor of musical arts degree from Michigan State University, artist diploma from the Hochschule für Musik in Munich, and MM and BM degrees from Indiana University, where he was the recipient of the School of Music's highest honors. He studied with Ralph Votapek, Elisso Virsaladze, Helmut Deutsch, Edward Auer, Emilio del Rosario, and Michel Block.
Roth is currently associate professor of piano at Drake University. His recordings with Blue Griffin Recording have garnered favorable reviews in Fanfare, American Record Guide, International Record Review, and Gramophone. He also served on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point and Alma College.
A huge highlight for the professional music program each year is the SWCC Vocal JazzFest, which features worldwide renowned jazz artists. Guest artists for the School for Music Vocations have included Clare Fischer, Richie Cole, Nancy King, Rob McConnell, Don Shelton, Cedric Dent of Take 6, M-Pact, Darmon Meader, The New York Voices, and The Real Group.
The New York Voices were on campus for the 2011 SWCC Vocal JazzFest.
