- Complete online application for admission and submit to the Admissions Office prior to pre-registering
for any classes.
- Submit all previous final high school and official college transcripts and/or GED scores.
- Meet ACT test requirements or make arrangements through the Assessment Center to take the COMPASS test prior to registering for classes.
- Check with Admissions Office for other program requirements.
- An application for admission must be on file in order to register.
- Registration is open for new and returning students.
- EARLY REGISTRATION IS ENCOURAGED.
- Registration should include a conference with a faculty advisor and/or college counselor. Students are urged to arrange for early conferences in planning for any future term.
- The college reserves the right to cancel, reschedule or alter the meeting times of any course. Students must follow the drop/add procedure to add another course/section to replace the cancelled section.
- A minimum class size may be required for all courses offered.
- If you have registered and are unable to attend Southwestern, you must contact the Registrar’s Office to cancel your classes and charges.
Entrance Test Requirements
There are four ways students may be accepted into Southwestern (SWCC):
- Provide a documented score of 19 or above on the ACT or an equivalent SAT score (910 combined math and verbal).
- Take the COMPASS test prior to registering for classes.
- Provide documentation of a COMPASS test taken within the past three years.
- Provide a college transcript showing a minimum of 12 credit hours with a “C” grade or better in each class (including three credits in English and three credits in math).
A visiting student is defined as the following:
- A student enrolled at another college who plans to transfer credits back to his/her home college, or
- A student who takes a course for personal or professional development and is not degree-seeking.
A visiting student must submit an application for admission and indicate he/she is visiting. In order to take a math or English course, the student must submit an official ACT or COMPASS test score. Visiting students are not required to submit transcripts. A visiting student may take up to 10 credits per term at SWCC.

Payment of Tuition/Fees
- 2013-14 resident tuition and fees–$154 per credit.*
- 2013-14 non-resident and international tuition and fees–$161*
- Online classes–$152 per credit tuition and fees.*
Arrangements for payment of tuition and fees must be made with the Business Office on or before the first day of the term.

Charge slips will be available starting January 6, 2014, for eligible students who have completed the financial aid process. For questions regarding status, contact the Financial Aid Office at 641.782.1333 or 800.247.4023, ext. 333.
Students must bring their class schedules to the Bookstore to pick up books. Books may be purchased beginning January 6, 2014.
Students may find their login by going to the SWCC home page at www.swcciowa.edu under the “Current Students” drop-down menu and clicking “E-mail Accounts”or simply click here. The password is the first three letters of the student’s last name in capitals and the last four digits of the student’s social security number (Example: ABC1234). To access a Southwestern student e-mail account, click “Web Mail” from the home page.
Electronic Access to Student Records
Grades are available on the CampusConnect system through Southwestern’s home page at www.swcciowa.edu. To access grades, a student must provide the student’s ID and PIN number. Upon a student's initial entry into Campus Connect, the student will be required to set a password, which must be used upon subsequent entries.
Academic Transcript Requests
Authorization forms for releasing transcripts can be obtained in the Registrar’s Office or printed at www.swcciowa.edu/transcripts. Transcripts are forwarded only upon written request from the student.
There is a fee of $5 per transcript requested. The fee must be paid to the SWCC business office prior to the transcript being sent. To pay by credit card, call the Southwestern Community College business office at 641.782.1448. Requests for transcripts will be honored as quickly as possible in order of receipt. Please allow additional time at the end of each term.
Temporary Closing Policy
Every effort will be made to keep the college open. However, should inclement weather or other emergencies necessitate closing the college or delaying the start of classes, the decision will be made between 5-5:30 a.m. and will be announced on the following media outlets and the e2Campus text message notification system (see below):
