Houses are going up with the hard work of Southwestern's high school building trades/carpentry students!
Each year, students from Creston, East Union, Lenox, Mount Ayr, Nodaway Valley, Orient-Macksburg, and Southwest Valley work together to build a home, sponsored by Union County Development Corporation. Central Decatur and Clarke students work together to build a home, sponsored by Clarke County Development Corporation.
Approximately 40 students are enrolled in this program each year. Building trades/carpentry students can complete 30 credit hours during a two-year period of time. The credits can be transferred into SWCC's building trades/carpentry program and an associate of applied science (AAS) degree can be finished in as little as 12 additional months.
SWCC's program is certified by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and sponsored by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).
