Head Coach Nick Ekel
Coach Ekel came to SWCC in 2015 from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh where he assisted with the women’s track program. Prior to that, he was the assistant cross country coach for Sheridan County School District #1 in Big Horn, WY.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in geography from the University of Wyoming where he competed in track and field, as well as on the cross country team. He was an Academic All-American in 2012, the Mountain West Conference 10,000m champion in 2012, an NCAA West Region qualifier in 2012, and a two-time All Mountain West Conference cross country selection.
Coach Ekel enjoys sharing his passion for track and field and cross country through competition, coaching, and volunteering. Ekel is an active runner and completed the 2015 IMT Des Moines Marathon in 2:47:17.
Assistant Coach Jordan Strofaci
Strofaci has been the assistant coach for the cross country and track & field programs at Southwestern since August 2016.
Prior to coming to Southwestern, Strofaci was employed as a personal trainer for Rise n’ Fly Sports and an assistant track and field/cross country coach for Lakeside High School, both in Lake Elsinore, CA. He is the co-founder and director of marketing for Elite Athlete Products Incorporated, in San Diego, CA.
Strofaci, originally from Palmdale, CA, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in exercise science with a minor in strength and conditioning/fitness management at Northwestern College in Orange City, in December 2015. As a member of the track and field team at Northwestern, Strofaci was a two-time NAIA All-American (4x100m relay and decathlon) for the Red Raiders.
In addition to coaching, Strofaci is a residence hall coordinator for the student housing department.
