Freshman Shelby Williams (pictured) shot an impressive 84 on day one of the Region XI Women's Tournament at Otter Creek in Ankeny on Friday, April 25, 2014, which was good enough to pace her to a 10th place overall finish and a trip to the National Tournament, May 12-15, in Daytona, FL.
Williams battled the strong wind with the rest of the field on day two, but her 99 did not put her anywhere near the danger zone of not making the cut. Fifteen women in the region qualify for Nationals. The women's team finished fourth overall, as the Spartans competed at a high level for both of the days.
Konnor Griffith, Caitlin Giles, Courtney Hackett, and Logan Kinyon all made strong plays, but could not find the consistency to crack the top 15. The previous national qualifier for Southwestern was Molly Budach in 2012.
