Maleika and Julanie Carter, May 2017 Southwestern Spartan grads, will be moving back to their hometown of Des Moines to finish out their collegiate careers, competing for the Grand View University Vikings next season under Head Coach Gary Smith.

Demir Alford with current and future coaches

The Southwestern Spartans' Demir Alford, 5'6 guard from Des Moines, recently signed a letter of intent to continue her collegiate career under the direction of Head Coach Jeff Reis at Lindenwood University – Belleville, located just east of St. Louis, in Belleville, IL.

Dallas Center-Grimes (DCG) High School softball outfielder Shelby Freestone has committed to the Spartans of Southwestern Community College for 2017-18.

On Saturday and Sunday, May 6 and 7, the Southwestern Spartans traveled to the 2017 regional track meet hosted by Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs. The Spartans put everything on the line to finish the season with a remarkable performance.

The Southwestern Spartan women’s golf team traveled to Ankeny to compete in their Regional Championship on Friday, April 28, 2017. The Spartans competed against some stiff competition and almost came up with some national championship qualifiers in the shortened event. The event was shortened to 18 holes with brutal weather conditions taking place all throughout the competition.

Hunter Anderson, Tanner Howard, Trevor Elwood, Clayton Dale and Blade Smith

The Spartan sports shooting team competed in the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) Collegiate Trap Championship on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at the Stockdale Gun Club in Ackley. The weather was very unfavorable for shooting as it was cold with 25 mph gusting winds. Despite the elements, the Spartans finished in second place overall in the 200 target competition.

On Wednesday, April 26, 2017, Southwestern Community College Head Volleyball Coach Aleesha Cleaver inked her seventh recruit of the year by signing local talent, Sadie Frost.

Frost, a senior at Mount Ayr High School, was a key piece in the Raiderettes’ success this past fall.

The Southwestern men’s basketball team and coaching staff were recognized during the Iowa Cubs baseball game vs. Colorado Springs Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 6:30 p.m., in Des Moines.
