Clay, Maag, and Trygstad sign with the Spartans

Nick Ekel, Southwestern Community College head cross country/track and field coach, recently signed three student-athletes to run for the Spartans during their 2016-17 campaign. Spartan signees included Briar Clay of Stuart, Collin Maag of Scottsbluff, NE, and Caden Trygstad of Nevada.

Clay Briar

Briar Clay is a May 2016 graduate of West Central Valley High School in Stuart. He qualified for state in the 100m dash in 2015 with a time of 11.2 seconds. He is an honor roll student. Clay is the son of Darren Clay and Marykay Smith.

Maag Collin

Collin Maag is a May 2016 graduate of Scottsbluff High School in Scottsbluff, NE. He was a member of the Nebraska state champion team in 2013 and 2014. In track and field, Maag ran on the 2015 state champion 4x800 team and he was a state qualifier in the open 800 in 2016. He is the son of Patrick and Kristin Maag of Scottsbluff, NE.

Trygstad Caden

Caden Trygstad is a May 2016 graduate of Nevada High School in Nevada. He is the son of Rick and Lori Trygstad. During high school, he received varsity letters in baseball, cross country, and track and field. He was captain of the cross country team. He was a member of the National Honor Society and was awarded academic all-conference honors.

Wes David signs with Spartan Golf

Nodaway Valley High School golfer Wes Davis has committed to Southwestern Community College’s golf program for the 2016-17 season.

Davis is a four-year golf letter winner for the Nodaway Valley Wolverines. He graduates from Nodaway Valley in May 2016. He has been on the honor roll throughout high school.

The Southwestern track & field team sent three student-athletes to Levelland, TX this past week to compete at the NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships hosted by South Plains College.

SWCC Drill Team Adds Six

Kaeleigh Ballentine, head coach for the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Dazzlers dance team, had a big week adding six student-athletes to her team for the 2016-17 dance season.

Samuel Vega

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) recently released the 2016 Division II All-Region awards for baseball. Three Spartans earned the post-season honor. Spartan infielder Samuel Vega (pictured above), Sophomore from Vega Baja, PR, was named Second Team All Region. Infielders Victor Perez, freshman from Tavernier, FL, and Bradly Lopez, sophomore from Cayey, PR, earned honorable mention.

Kade Means signs with Spartan Sports Shooting

Kade Means, a 2016 graduate of Diagonal High School, has committed to the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) sports shooting team for their 2016-17 run.

Means, son of Jennifer Mackey of Diagonal, was a four-year national archery qualifier for the Diagonal Maroons.

Taylor Damewood Signs with Spartan Golf

Just weeks after signing with the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) volleyball team, Southwest Valley’s Taylor Damewood has also committed to the Spartan golf program. Damewood will be a two-sport athlete at SWCC starting with the fall 2016 semester.

The Southwestern track & field teams competed at the Region XI Championships this past weekend held on the campus of Iowa Western Community College.  In a field with three top twenty five programs in the NJCAA, both the men and women placed sixth with team scores of twenty two and fourteen points, respectively.
