Three individuals from the SWCC track and field team competed at the NJCAA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Hutchinson, KS, on May 16-18, 2013.
Molly Schimp (left), freshman from Hampton, competed in the high jump finishing 12th in the nation. Kalli McCann (center), sophomore from Osceola, finished a great running career at Southwestern by finishing 25th in the 5000 meters. Jackson Shantz (right), freshman from Greenfield, finished 29th in the 400 meter hurdles.
Three sophomores from the 2012-13 track and field team have signed national letters of intent to continue running after they transfer. Dave Prchal signed with Chicago State, a Division I college located in Chicago, IL, where he’ll be running cross country as well as track and field; Kalli McCann signed with Grand View University in Des Moines where she’ll run cross country and track and field for the Vikings; and Regina Hafner will continue her running career at Bethel College in North Newton, KS, where she’ll participate in cross country and track and field.
Bill Huntington, head track and field coach, said nationals were a great end right to a great season. “It was a fantastic ending to Southwestern’s inaugural track and field season to have five individuals competing in the indoor and outdoor championships,” Huntington said. “The groundwork has been laid for future success.”
