The Spartans had their first taste of conference play in Estherville on Wednesday, December 11 against the Iowa Lakes CC Lakers. The Spartans struggled to keep up with the Laker offense mainly due to poor rebounding and dropped the road contest 50-76. The Lakers out-rebounded the Spartans 48-22, with 19 of the Laker rebounds coming from their offense.
Head coach Addae Houston said, "The biggest difference in this game was offensive rebounding. We gave up too many second chance opportunities and they were able to convert."
Despite the loss, the team had consistent double figure scoring from Morgan Knorr, Darian Polson, and Jill Vanderhoof. Knorr led all scorers with 13 points along with four steals, Polson added 10 points with two blocks, and Vanderhoof finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
