The Spartans had a strong start to the visiting DI Iowa Western CC on Saturday, December 14. The Spartans started the game with hot shooting led by Morgan Knorr who had seven early first half points. Their early lead, however, was diminished behind poor transition defense and the Reiver’s Abigail Asoro 16 first half points.
The Spartans headed to the locker room down but with the game still in reach, 22-36. The second half the Spartans struggled to keep pace with their DI opponents, getting outscored 47-21. Darian Polson scored 12 second half points and finished the game with 18 points to lead all scorers. The Reivers took home the victory, 83-43.
Head Coach Addae Houston commented, “I was really proud of the way the team came out focused and playing hard against a really good Iowa Western team. Although we could not pull the game close again, It was really encouraging to see the way the team continued to battle and fight for 40 minutes.”
The Spartans will get to take some time off to enjoy the holidays before they come back for their next game on Saturday, January 4. They will travel to Keokuk to take on Southeastern CC in a 2 p.m. conference matchup.
