On Saturday, Feb. 11, Southwestern made the trek to Cedar Rapids to take on number one ranked Kirkwood Community College.  The Spartans were eager to get back at the Eagles following their 103-69 home loss back on Jan. 14 in Creston.

On Thursday, Feb. 9, Southwestern notched its 13th win of the season as they defeated Simpson JV 62-60 in Indianola. That win surpasses the most wins the women’s basketball team has had since the 2002-03 season when the squad finished 14-12 overall.

Kierra Brice signs with SWCC

Addae Houston, Southwestern Community College’s head women’s basketball coach announced today he has signed Omaha Northwest player Kierra Brice to the Spartan team for their 2017-18 season.

Brice’s high school team at Omaha Northwest is 14-7 at this point in their 2016-17 run. She will graduate from high school in May 2017.

On Saturday, Feb. 4, the Spartans went head-to-head with the Trojans of North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in a matchup that would move one team into fourth place in the ICCAC standings, as both teams came in with a 3-3 record.

At the start, neither team gained any significant ground over the other.  Both teams shot the ball well and created some turnovers with their defense that led to a few easy baskets. As the first quarter came to a close, the Trojans held just a five-point advantage over Southwestern.

SWCC vs Iowa Central

Southwestern looked to get back on track following Monday’s close loss to Kansas City Kansas Community College as they hosted the Tritons of Iowa Central Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 1.  With a 2-3 record in the ICCAC, the Spartans hoped to add another win to match last year's win total in conference play.

The Spartans fell behind early and trailed the Tritons through the entire first half and went into the break down 26-18 which is their lowest scoring output of the season for a half.
