Struggling with an assignment or with a class in general? You have many options available:
SWCC offers free, individual or small group, academic tutoring for a variety of courses. Students are requested to call or stop in to make an appointment to see a tutor at a time most convenient for them. Peer tutors provide the tutoring services to students and they are available at a range of times.
Tutoring is offered in the TRIO-Student Support Services department on the second floor of the Instructional Center. Questions? Please contact Andrea Rivera Rojas, tutor coordinator.
Each student enrolled in a fully-online course, hybrid course, or eCompanion course has access to online tutoring services through Smarthinking. Students are allotted 15 hours of tutoring services for the academic year (August through July). For detailed information, please visit the Student Resources page on the Iowa Community College Online Consortium Web site.
The Success Center, located in rooms 212 and 214 of the Instructional Center, provides academic support, tutoring, and skill building services to help students reach their potential. The staff is dedicated to working with students to help them obtain skills necessary for college and career success. In addition, the Success Center provides services for English language learners, individuals completing high school equivalency diplomas, and adult basic education participants.
The Writing Center, operated by Kelly Franklin and Stephen Jefferies, SWCC English instructors, provides assistance in formatting, citation, organizing papers, navigating databases, assignment clarification, finding appropriate sources, etc. In addition to assistance provided by English instructors, the Writing Center also employs one student worker each semester in order to provide peer tutoring in a relaxed setting.
During the spring 2017 semester, the Writing Center is open on Tuesdays, from 2:30-4:30 p.m., and Wednesdays, from 1-3 p.m., in room 209 of the Instructional Center.
