Cross Country Home
On Saturday, October 15, the Spartan Men and Women Cross Country Teams traveled to Dixon, IL, and competed in the Sauk Valley Invitational hosted by Sauk Valley Community College. It was another stellar day for both teams as the women captured their second invitational crown of the season while the men finished fifth, placing two runners in the top 15.
From Coach Huntington:
We had a fantastic meet at the Grand View Viking Invitational. This was a very important meet for both the men's and women's teams here at Southwestern. We needed to see if we could come off of three weeks of increased mileage and a really fast course at Augustana and compete at the level we need to be at as the season crosses the half way mark. We have had some tremendous growth lately and this meet was a big test for us both physically and mentally. Ewing Park is a very tough course. There are several large hills with a lot of sharp turns over uneven ground. It is not a speed course and the competition was very good with a nationally ranked team in the field and several colleges who will contend for their conference championships.
The SWCC women finished first in the junior college division at the Brissman Lundeen Invitational at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011. More than 700 runners from 35 colleges participated in the meet. Runners for the Spartans' team included Kalli McCann, freshman from Osceola who set a school record in the 6K; Christy Stevens, freshman from Atlantic; Sarah Sneed, freshman from Malvern; Regina Hafner, freshman from Panora; and Delaney Turner, freshman from Panora. They finished second, fifth, eighth, ninth and 10th respectively to secure the victory. Every Spartan runner set a personal record in the 6K race.
The team placed 19th overall at the invitational.

Kalli McCann and Dave Prchal led their respective teams at the prestigious Les Duke Invitational hosted by Grinnell College over the weekend. Coach Huntington felt it was an incredible showing for Southwestern overall, as each runner set a personal record at the 6K and 8K distances.
