Despite shooting 25 percent from the arc and 58% from the FT Line the Spartan basketball team won 67-64 at Southeast (NE) Community College on Saturday, November 22nd. “Road wins are hard to come by. I think it showed a lot about our young team to win a road game when we didn’t play our best. Southeast did a lot of things that caused us problems that we will have to fix when they come to our place on December 13,” said Coach Todd Lorensen.

The Spartan men used a 13-0 start over the first five minutes of the game to set the tone against Wartburg College JV on Tuesday night en route to an 87-53 win. The win improved their record to 5-0 on the season. Jaylon Smith led the way with 19 points while big men Mataika Koyamainavure and Simon Joseph combined for 28 points, 15 and 13 respectively. “Jaylon has struggled shooting the past few times out so it was good to see him back in rythym. Both big fellas did some really good things and their stats resemble that,” said coach Todd Lorensen.
Jok Kut and Josh Kirk (pictured, #24) had 20 points each to pace the Spartan’s to a 109-64 win over Graceland JV on Wednesday night in Creston. “Both of those guys provided us great energy and made multiple hustle plays which is something our staff loves to see,” said Coach Todd Lorensen.
