TJ Bower

T.J. Bower, the all-time leading scorer in Nodaway Valley history, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for Southwestern.  Bower’s numbers are gaudy.  He ranks number one all-time with 1,463 points and 245 steals.  He is second on the all-time list with 627 career rebounds, and third in assists.  Bower averaged 20.4 points per game in his senior season, but scoring is not what Head Coach Mike Holmes feels is his greatest asset.

rockwell brendan IMG 1421

Brendan Rockwell (pictured in center), a senior at Millard South High School in suburban Omaha, has signed a National Letter of Intent with Southwestern men's basketball. Rockwell, a 6'7" post, will bring additional rebounding and post presence to the Spartan's interior game next season. Head Coach Mike Holmes indicated that Rockwell really sold himself during his visit to campus. "I expected an adequate post player after seeing Brendan on film," Holmes said, "but when I met him and saw him play live, I concluded that he was twice the player I thought he was."

Rockwell brings a soft touch around the rim to the systems, as well as strength underneath. Holmes feels the team has now addressed major rebounding concerns heading into the 2014-15 campaign with the additions of Rockwell and 6'6" power man Kris Goettert. They will join Mataika Koyamainavure and Nikola Drobnjak in the post rotations next season.

roebuck brenen signing

Brenen Roebuck, a high-energy guard from Ralston, NE, signed a National Letter of Intent with Southwestern yesterday.  Roebuck caught the eye of head coach Mike Holmes with his understanding of the game, especially on the defensive end of the floor, and his consistent hustle.  Roebuck is a guard who can get to the basket, handle the ball, and hit the outside shot on occasion.  Despite several verbal commitments, Roebuck is the first official signing for the Spartans.  He will join eight incoming freshmen in this year’s recruiting class.

goettert kris

Kris Goettert, a 6'6" post from McArthur High School in Florida, known for energy and rebounds, has given a verbal commitment to the Southwestern Men’s Basketball program.  Goettert, who has only been playing organized for three years, is still hitting his potential, but already brings a rebounding presence to the rotation for 2014-15.  Goettert was selected for the Dade-Brevard County All-Star game, and was a member of a district champion this year at McArthur High School.  Goettert plans to study physical therapy in college, and chose Southwestern because he feels it is different and fits his skill set well.

Head Coach Mike Holmes said, “Kris continues our recruiting theme this year of pursuing guys who have a motor that won’t quit and who are competitive.  I was really impressed when I watched him that he never stops competing for rebounds and loose balls.  He also has a nice touch around the rim and can do things with both hands.”
