Jennifer Scanlan, a high school senior at Savannah R-III High School in Savannah, MO, will be joining the Spartans softball team at Southwestern Community College starting with the fall 2013 semester.
Scanlan, a catcher, was selected second team all-district and second team all-conference as a eighth grader; first team all-district, first team all-conference, and second team all-region as a freshman; first team all-district, second team all-conference, and second team all-region as a sophomore; and first team all-district, second team all-conference, and second team all-region as a junior. She is a multi-sport athlete who lettered JV in basketball as a freshman and has received the President’s Education Awards Program award for academics.
Southwestern Community College Head Softball Coach Lindsay Stumpff was featured in the February 2013 edition of Fastpitch Delivery, a publication from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The article, titled "Faced With a Storm's Fury, SWCC's Stumpff Helps Her Team Move On," focused on the Spartans' winning 2012 softball season despite being faced with a mid-season tornado hitting the college's campus.
During a ceremony held on January 15, 2013, at Southwestern Community College (SWCC), Ashley Gibbs, a senior at Clarke High School; Samantha Strand, a senior at Johnston High School, and Brittni Vogt, a senior at Ottumwa High School signed letters of intent to play softball at SWCC starting with the fall 2013 semester.
Creston, IA—Nine Southwestern Community College (SWCC) softball players were recently named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) academic teams.
The first team consisted of student-athletes earning a 3.5 or above grade point average. SWCC athletes making first team included Carla Smith (pictured above left) of Greenfield, a 2011 Creston High School graduate, and Erin Budach (pictured above right) of Mt. Ayr, a 2010 Mt. Ayr High School graduate.
For second team honors, the students must have earned a grade point average between 3.0 and 3.4. Second team honors went to the SWCC Spartans’ Danyielle Barger of Centerville, Ashley Brandt of Haverhill, Haley Hammer of Lone Tree, Leah Kipfer of Albia, Devan Kline of Brooklyn, Sarah Meinecke of Jamaica, and Kelsey Moore of Centerville.
