2014Volleyball
The 2014 Spartans volleyball team is hosting a FREE Volleyball Clinic for middle school students on Fri., August 15, from 2-3 p.m. in the Student Center gymnasium.  During the clinic, middle school students, grades sixth through eighth, will have opportunities to play volleyball with the 2014 Spartan team and learn from the coaches. 

Parents and families are invited to stay and watch.

Malone Brittany

New Southwestern Community College Volleyball Coach Ting Liu didn’t have to travel far to find her latest recruit—Brittany Malone, 2014 East Union High School graduate.

Malone made two state volleyball appearances during her high school career. She was on the 2012 team that finished the season as Pride of Iowa Conference champs. She was named first team all-conference as defensive specialist. In addition to her success in volleyball, she also made it to state two years for track and left a legacy at East Union by beating school records in track.

Coker Erin

Erin Coker, a May 2014 Cedar Rapids Kennedy graduate, is headed to Southwestern Community College (SWCC) to play for Ting Liu, who is in her first-year coaching the Spartans volleyball team.

During high school, Coker was a four-year starter for the Kennedy volleyball team. She played in two state tournaments and received all-metro and all-conference honors for her last three years of high school. In addition to her athletic honors, Coker was named to the Kennedy Honor Roll of Excellence all trimesters during high school and was a member of the Science National Honor Society.

Brusha Cobbs, Tabitha Karkosky, Bailey Preston, and Taylor Wisecup

Southwestern Community College’s new volleyball coach, Ting Liu, is quickly building her roster for the 2014 volleyball season.  During the last week alone, Liu has added four athletes to her roster:  Brusha Cobbs of Omaha, Tabitha Karkosky of Bellevue, NE, Bailey Preston of Omaha, NE, and Taylor Wisecup of Des Moines.

Cobbs, a 5’7” outside hitter and defensive specialist, graduated from Omaha North High School in May 2014.  She received all-conference honorable mention her sophomore through senior years in high school.  She is the daughter of Bruce and Tomeki Cobbs of Omaha, NE.

Karkosky, a 5’8” middle hitter and right side, graduated from Bellevue West High School in May 2014.  She played for the Nebraska Impact Volleyball Club.  She is the daughter of Steve and Kelly Karkosky of Bellevue, NE.

Preston, a 5’7” setter, graduated with honors from Roncalli Catholic High School in May 2014.  She received all-conference honorable mention for volleyball her sophomore, junior, and senior years.  She was named all-area honorable mention and all-state honorable mention for volleyball her senior year.  Preston received the Distinguished Athlete Award from the United States Marine Corps and the Mater of Sports Award from Roncalli Catholic for earning three varsity letters while participating in volleyball, basketball, and soccer.  She also received the AAA (Academics, Activities, and Athletics) award at her high school.  She is the daughter of Greg Preston of Omaha, NE.

Wisecup, a 5’7” setter, graduated from North High School in May 2014.  She received all-conference honorable mention all four years of high school.  Wisecup was on the honor roll all four years of high school.  She is the daughter of Janea Wisecup of Des Moines.
