With the season winding down, the Spartans made a final trip to Des Moines to play the Grand View Vikings. The Spartans had defeated the Vikings on their home court two weeks prior. However, the they would not let the Vikings get revenge, defeating them in three games, 25-21, 25-16, and 25-8.
Head Coach Melissa Blessington said, "We did start out slow but we did have a few days off from play so it was to be expected. Our girls are staying focused and we are hoping to get win number 30 Wednesday night."
The Spartans remain in third place in the Region XI conference and will host Iowa Lakes on Wednesday, October 30 at 6:30 p.m.
The SWCC Spartans came home with another victory last night after defeating Marshalltown CC in three games at Marshalltown.
SWCC Head Coach Melissa Blessington said her team went into the match-up well aware of who they would be facing. "This was a very scrappy Marshalltown team," Blessington said. "Our girls knew going in that they had to stay on their toes because there would be a lot of balls coming back at us." Blessington felt her team did a good job fighting each play and she was very happy to come away with a victory in just three sets.
The Spartans' next outing is Mon., October 28, vs. Grand View JV in Des Moines.

According to SWCC Head Coach Melissa Blessington, last night's Spartan victory vs. Southeast NE CC was "another great win for our team." Early in the season, Southeast Nebraska beat the Spartans in four sets. The results were much different this time around.
"I challenged my team to really work on pushing each other to not let the ball hit the ground and we played great defense," Blessington explained. Blessington complimented numerous players for their efforts in the Spartans' victory. "Serena Yong did a great job communicating tonight. Molly, Janaya, and Ashley were all fantastic in the back row and it was a balanced attack for us again in the front row."

The Spartan volleyball team fought another great battle in last night's match against Highland CC. According to SWCC Head Coach Melissa Blessington, Highland is always tough for the Spartans to play. "They have a scrappy back row and their setter is very smart," Blessington explained. "Our girls worked hard for every point and that is something that we have been focused on for the past few weeks."
In addition to the Spartans victory, one member of the team received a huge honor. Molly Schimp was named Defensive Player of the Week for the ICCAC. Blessington said Schimp is new to the defensive position, having been a setter last year, so she and the team are very proud of Schimp and what she has accomplished.
