After their last game against nationally ranked Highland CC, the Spartans little time to ready themselves to host Graceland JV on Monday, November 18. The Spartans, growing as a team, jumped out early and held on for the win, 74-63.
Head Coach Addae Houston said, “We came out at the start of the game executing our offense really well and getting the shots we wanted. That allowed us to take big lead earlier on.”
The Spartans took their strong first half into the locker room with a 32-17 lead. After the break the Spartan’s shooting remained strong. Their defense, however, started to struggle as the Yellow Jacket offence scored an impressive 46 second-half points.
Houston commented, “We have to continue to get better at finishing when we have leads late in the game and I think that will come with more experience.”
Sophomores Morgan Knorr and Darian Polson showed their experience on the floor. Knorr had a season high with 23 points along with five rebounds, and three assist. Polson recorded a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.
Houston continued, “Polson and Knorr have continued to play well and lead our team this year. I can’t say enough about the job they have done. Even though it’s early in the season and we still have a long way to go they have been great leaders on and off the court.”
The Spartans will have a chance for a rematch on Wednesday, November 20, when they host North Central Missouri College. The Spartan lost that earlier road matchup 58-69. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
