A very balanced scoring attack from Iowa Central saw several of their starters and bench players hit double-digits in scoring. Head Coach Addae Houston said, “We actually shot the ball really well for the game but most of our scoring came in the second half putting up 39 points. The deficit was just too great and it’s hard to defend a team on when everyone on their team is just hitting shots.”
A combination of poor shooting and turnovers against Southeast created a large deficit for the Spartans to overcome. The first half ended with the Spartans down 38-14. In the second half, the Spartan shooting was much improved as they outscored them 25-22 but it was too little too late. The final score left the Spartans with another loss, 61-39. Freshman Peyton Russell ended the game with 11 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Darian Polson led the team in scoring with 12 points and five rebounds.
The Spartans went in at half time against Ellsworth down six with the score being 27-21, but the biggest problem was stopping them from getting offensive rebounds for second chance opportunities. Ellsworth out-rebounded the Spartans and 19 of their 41 rebounds were offensive. The spartans lost 71-51.
Head Coach Addae Houston said, “We did a better job of keeping them from getting offensive rebounds in the second half, but they got hot from three and that helped created big enough lead that we could not recover from.”
The Spartans hosted the DMACC Bears on February 12 and lost 74-41. The Bear’s strong three-point shooting gave them control of most of the game, hitting a total of nine from behind the arc and nearly 40 percent from the field. Head Coach Addae Houston said, “I though we battled hard against them for 40 minutes but we could not hit shots that may have kept the game close.”
Morgan Knorr lead the team with 12 points.
