The Spartan women traveled last night, Thursday, November 8, to Lamoni for their season opener against the Graceland JV basketball team. After a slow start, the Spartans found themselves on the wrong end of a 13 point deficit.

Head Coach Addae Houston said, ”I think we were a bit timid or nervous considering it was first game of the season and first college game for most of them. Once we settled in and hit some shots, got a few defensive stops we were back in the game.”

Two weeks ago, Lindsay Stumpff, SWCC head softball coach, announced third baseman Jordan Williamson (pictured left) from Interstate 35 High School would be joining the Spartan softball program during the upcoming school year. Last week, Addae Houston, SWCC head basketball coach, said Williamson will also be playing basketball during her time at SWCC.

Houston feels Willamson, a 5'8" guard/forward, is a player who can contribute in all aspects of the game.  As a senior in high school, she averaged eight points, four assists, three steals, and three rebounds per contest.  During high school, Williamson was named second team all-conference, was team captain her senior year, and lettered three years. She also received an academic letter.

She is the daughter of Gayle and Val Willamson of St. Charles.
