The Southwestern Women stepped upped with some stellar performances at the Dutch Athletics Classic Saturday in their second indoor meet of the season.  The Spartan women had eight place winners and scored 33 points to finish 5th overall in a very talented field.

Molly Schimp (freshman, Hampton-Dumont) got the Spartans started with a solid performance in the high jump as she finished 5th clearing 4'9".  "Molly really set the tone for the day" said head coach Bill Huntington.  "Her placing let the team know that we were here to compete."

Kalli McCann (sophomore, Osceola) turned in two very notable performances for the Spartans winning the 3000-meter in 11:29 and turning around and finishing third in the mile in 5:56.  Mariah Kruse (sophomore, Afton) and Regina Hafner (sophomore, Panora) put points on the board as well for the Spartans by finishing fourth and eighth in the 600-meter and sixth and eighth in the 1000-meter.  "Those were two great races for both Mariah and Reg," remarked assistan coach Melissa Blessington.  "Those were nearly back to back with little time for recovery and those ladies showed some heart by running well and placing."

Peyton Wilkenfeld (freshman, Elk Horn), Brei Theisen (freshman, Alton, IL) and Kristin Klocksiem  (freshman, Glidden) turned in very solid performances as well in their first meet of the season. Wilkenfeld just missed making the finals in the 55-meter dash by less than three hundredths of a second and Klocksiem ran a good time to finish 10th overall in the 200-meter.  "Those three young ladies really performed well.  They have been injured and it was great to see them back on the track for the Spartans."

The Spartans are back in action at Cornell next week.
