Women's Track & Field Home
Molly Schimp made history the weekend of March 2 as she became the first female Spartans to qualify and compete in the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships held at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. Schimp exceeded her seed mark as she finished 14th at the national indoor championships. This is the first year Southwestern has field a track and field team.
Schimp finished 14th overall in the high jump, just missing the podium based on criteria. She cleared the first three heights and went out when the bar reached 1.66m, (5-05.25). Just four women in the competition made that height, but due to some early missed attempts, Schimp placed 14th.
Molly Schimp, freshman from Hampton, and Rayvonne Brown, freshman from Davenport, are headed to the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championship in Lubbock, TX. Schimp will be competing in the women's high jump on March 2. Brown will be competing in the 600 meter run on March 1.
Good luck to both of them and go Spartans!
The Southwestern Women stepped upped with some stellar performances at the Dutch Athletics Classic Saturday in their second indoor meet of the season. The Spartan women had eight place winners and scored 33 points to finish 5th overall in a very talented field.
Molly Schimp (freshman, Hampton-Dumont) got the Spartans started with a solid performance in the high jump as she finished 5th clearing 4'9". "Molly really set the tone for the day" said head coach Bill Huntington. "Her placing let the team know that we were here to compete."
