SWCC vs. Ellsworth

Spartans keep close in the first half, fall in the second

The Ellsworth Panthers came into Saturday's game undefeated in conference play. The Spartans controlled the tempo of the first half, and headed into the lockeroom only down by two, 18-20. The first few minutes of the second half looked as though the game might go down to the final buzzer. Then, after a few Panther unanswered points, the deficit began to slowly climb. Both teams were in the foul bonus with several minutes left in the game, sending frequent players to the line from both teams. In the end, the Pathers left the court still undefeated in conference play, beating the Spartans 56-44.

The Spartans will be on the road on Wednesday, Feb. 3 against DMACC, and will return home to play Clinton on Saturday, Feb. 6.Tip-off will be at 4 p.m. See you there.

SWCC vs Iowa Lakes

Spartans fall on road to Iowa Central

Iowa Central took control of the conference home game against Southwestern and never let go.  Paced by conference standout Kurt Alexander, the Tritons rushed out to an 11-point halftime lead, 37-26.  A quick start for Iowa Central in the second half upped the gap, and cold shooting plagued the Spartans throughout the contest.  The final, 81-58, moved Southwestern to 10-10 on the season.  They next host Ellsworth Saturday at 4 p.m.  The Panthers enter the game undefeated in conference play.
