Chamber choirConcert Choir

The Concert Choir studies and performs significant choral repertoire including larger works by major composers and contemporary compositions. Open to all students by audition, the choir performs frequently and takes an extended annual tour in late fall. Applied voice lessons are required of all members. Jason A. Smith conducts.

Chamber Singers
The Chamber Singers is a select vocal ensemble specializing in vocal chamber works from the Renaissance to the present.  Emphasis is on developing stylistic awareness, aesthetic sensitivity and a mature musicianship in each singer.  The Chamber Singers perform and record extensively.  Concurrent enrollment in the Concert Choir is required.

First Take

First Take is a six-member vocal jazz ensemble which performs in a variety of musical styles including swing,  latin, gospel, and a cappella music.  The group performs locally, and tours nationally or internationally each year.

The group is also on staff at the SMV Vocal Jazz Camps in Regina, Saskatchewan; Winnipeg, Manitoba; and Creston, Iowa.

These camps are weeklong workshops for high school students, directors, and enthusiasts. (For more information, visit www.VocalJazzCamp.com)
 
First Take released its first recording “For the Taking” in February 2005, and just released its second CD, “Journey Home” (a joint project with Audio Radiance).  In 2005, the group won an award from Downbeat Magazine for Best College Vocal Jazz Group.  The group performed at the International Association of Jazz Education Convention in 2007 in New York.  The ensemble is directed by Jeremy Fox, and is open to all students by audition.

Audio Radiance

Audio Radiance is a six to eight member vocal ensemble focusing on R&B/Soul literature. Directed by Jason Smith, Audio Radiance performs in regional concerts, and tours nationally each spring. Open to all students by audition.

Harmonic Convergence

Harmonic Convergence is a six- to seven-member vocal ensemble focusing on a variety of vocal jazz literature, both a cappella and with rhythm section.  Harmonic Convergence Radiance performs in regional concerts, and tours nationally each spring. Directed by Lucas Mattson, the ensemble is open to all students by audition.

Soundscape 

Soundscape is a mixed vocal ensemble focused on both a capella music and music with rhythm section.  This group performs both standard and modern jazz repertoire.  Soundscape performs locally and tours each spring.

Vocal Aftermath

Vocal Aftermath is a six to nine member ensemble selected by audition.  They perform on departmental concerts and sing at daylong run-out performances.
