Recording Studio

Students in studioIn today’s world, recording is an essential part of every musician’s education. Southwestern’s state-of-the-art professional studio gives our students unique opportunities, rarely offered at other schools.

Four to six dependable and hard-working students are selected annually to be student engineers. Along with added responsibility, these students have the extra-ordinary opportunity to become intimately familiar with all aspects of studio recording. Previous student engineers have worked, or now work, in recording studios nationwide.

The studio itself is spacious and versatile, containing one large recording space and up to three self-contained isolation booths,
for isolating sound. The main recording room houses a beautiful baby grand piano. Complete with ProTools software and a Korg keyboard workstation, the control room is fully MIDI functional.

The studio’s microphones, including AKG 414’s and Neumann TLM 103’s, are widely considered some of the finest in the recording industry today. Southwestern’s recording studio is equipped to handle large or small projects, in any musical genre. With the hands-on approach that the studio classes offer, students graduate with a solid foothold regarding the ins and outs of the recording industry.
