SWCC’s Networking Students Place in Statewide Contest

SWCC's Third Place Networking TeamCRESTON —A team of five Southwestern Community College business systems networking students placed third over the weekend at the Community College Cyber Defense Competition held at Iowa State University in Ames.   

Eleven students, who were divided into two teams, competed in the event for Southwestern.  Competition took place Friday, December 5, noon to midnight, and Saturday, December 6, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.   

SWCC’s third place team was made up of the following students:  Elliot VeVerka, sophomore from Montezuma; Zach Feldhacker, sophomore from Creston; Joshua Bix, freshman from Hopkins, MO; Ray Chenoweth, sophomore from Afton; and Evan Musfeldt, freshman from Lacona.  

The cyber defense competition allows community college’s with technology-related programs to assess students' depth of understanding and competency in managing the challenges inherent in protecting an enterprise network infrastructure and business information systems.
