Elevate Advanced Manufacturing has awarded a $500 scholarship to Brody Neas, a senior at Winterset High School, who will attend Southwestern Community College in Creston this fall.
Neas is one of 15 Elevate scholarship winners throughout Iowa. He will major in electrical technology. In addition to the $500 scholarship, Elevate scholarship recipients will be honored at the Legends in Manufacturing Award Ceremony in October.
Neas said he is interested in pursuing a career in electrical technology because he enjoys working in a hands-on environment and knows the field could be lucrative for him.
“There is a large demand for trained tradespeople,” explained Neas. “Because of the demand, I may be compensated at a higher rate than many other career industries.”
Neas is the son of Justin and Julie Neas of Kellerton.
Elevate Advanced Manufacturing is a non-profit initiative spreading the word about career opportunities in manufacturing. The 15-$500 scholarship awards have been given to high school seniors who are going to attend Iowa community colleges in the fall for careers in advanced manufacturing.
