Spartan Spotlight is 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019! Interested in being a future Spartan? Register for Spartan Spotlight to learn what life as a Spartan is all about!
At Spartan Spotlight, visitors will hear from a panel of Southwestern student-athletes, meet with coaches, tour campus, and have the opportunity to meet with admissions representatives. Activities will be planned for parents, as well. Dinner is included in the visit and all visitors are invited to attend Southwestern's Community Appreciation Night Presented by Creston Automotive at the men's basketball game vs. Quakerdale Prep at 7 p.m. in the Student Center Gymnasium.

Creston— The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of directors met Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, at 5:30 p.m., in the Administration Center on the Creston campus.
The board approved the college’s annual dues to the American Association of Community Colleges.

CRESTON, IOWA – The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Educational Talent Search (ETS) program is the recipient of a $40,000 grant for supplemental STEM funding from the United States Department of Education.
The grant was written to increase ETS participants’ awareness of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields with a particular focus on computer science. The goal will be to develop students’ proficiency in the use of computer applications and to transition the participants from users of technology to developers of technology.

The Southwestern Community College criminal justice classes hosted a number of guest speakers this past week.
Terry Cowman, associate director of intelligence for the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, visited the investigation class. Cowman talked about the Department of Public Safety and a previous case he closed. The case was a great example of investigation, information gathering, dealing with witnesses, etc.

The SWCC ag department is hosting a Haunted Farm at the Ag Site on Friday, Oct. 11, and Saturday, Oct. 12. Non-scary viewing of the Haunted Farm will take place from 7-8 p.m. and scary viewing will be from 9-11 p.m. The event will begin in the main parking lot on campus.

Sept. 9-13, 2019, was a busy week for Southwestern Community College's (SWCC's) criminal justice program. The students heard from a number of speakers and the week included a workplace visit to the Des Moines Police Department and the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
