Southwestern’s Vocational Rehabilitation Intermediary Network provides work-based learning activities to Central Decatur, Clarke, Creston, East Union, Nodaway Valley, and Southwest Valley School Districts through appropriated Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services (IVRS) funds through the Department of Education. The network prepares students with disabilities for the workforce by connecting students, the education system, business and the community through relevant, work-based learning activities across all 16 career clusters, with specific emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

How We Assist Students:
The network will assist students in locating job shadows, arranging workplace tours, and providing work skill information pertaining to their specific interests and needs.

How We Assist Teachers & Administrators:
The network will assist teachers and administrators in planning and funding workplace tours for a specific class or group of students. Business tours provide early exposure and visibility of student interest while supporting classroom instruction. Teachers are also encouraged to apply for the network’s paid externship program.
