Adult Education and Literacy

I knew I needed to get it done to pursue other things in life. The instructors were very supportive and very patient. I always enjoyed walking into class. Earning a high school diploma was important. Don't put it off. Just do it.

I firmly believe that without the help and encouragement of the staff and instructors at the Red Oak Center, I may not have done as well as I did. They made the program fun and feel easy.

Rachael (Red Oak)

It's never too late to further your education, starting with a high school diploma.

It was my goal to graduate high school and I never did, so I had to do it before it was too late. The HiSET program definitely helped me develop skills, my self-esteem, and open me up as a person.

The teachers were always there to help me … and I could work at my own pace. If I needed more help with one thing, then a teacher could help me 1-on-1.

Jackson (Nodaway)

I wanted to graduate. What I liked most about the HiSET program is that it wasn't as long as high school but I got everything I would have learned in school. In here, you can go for two to three hours a day for four days a week and still get everything done.

The best part is how much 1-on-1 support the teachers give you when you're struggling. Having night school as an option made it all work out. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have been able to finish.

Lexie (Des Moines)

I just wanted to do this to prove to myself I could. I appreciated the program's flexibility with my work schedule. I like the supportive environment so close to home, too. The teachers worked around me, which really helped a lot.

Laura (Creston)

I'm getting married and hopefully starting a family, so I wanted to have some career options. I can't keep working on the road. I want to be home and have a job that pays me well, so this is the first step.

My old school was not available to accommodate my disability. At SWCC, I felt very safe and you supported me a bunch throughout everything. I really like small classes so I can have more 1-on-1 time, so that was really fantastic.

Andee

I prefer to learn in person. I really liked that I had the 1-on-1 help of the teachers at SWCC and small classes. This program gave me the confidence to pursue more.

Holton (Creston)

This is something I've always wanted to get done since I was 20 years old. I've just been so busy working that I didn't really have the time to do it. I finally just knuckled down and said I'm going to get it done.

My experience here at SWCC was fantastic. I was very happy to have Dave and Cliff teach me. I was happy to go at my own pace, and they were flexible with my schedule. The biggest reason I wanted my diploma was to give my three children a better life. Having my diploma will allow me to do this.

Trevor (Trevor)

I now have the opportunity to get a good job or go back to college for training. I know this diploma will help me the rest of my life; it is a good feeling. The instructors were energetic, positive, informative, and very involved. Thank you SWCC! I am so glad you have a HSED program for people like me!
