Emergency Medical Responder
Emergency medical responders (EMR) are part of a comprehensive emergency medical services (EMS) response. The primary focus of the emergency medical responder is to initiate immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical system. Students are taught the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide lifesaving interventions with minimal equipment while awaiting additional EMS response for transport.
Emergency Medical Technician
The primary focus of the emergency medical technician (EMT) is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for patients who access the emergency medical system. Emergency medical technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency medical technicians provide medical interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The EMT is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.
This course teaches the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation for ill or injured patients.
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician
Advanced emergency medical technicians (AEMT) provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. Students enrolled in the advanced EMT course learn advanced procedures and provide limited pharmacological therapies. Advanced EMTs function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. The advanced EMT is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.
Firefighter Training
SWCC offers a variety of firefighter initial and continuing education programs. We have a fire skills trailer for use with many of our skills training sessions. If your fire department is interested in using the SWCC trailer, please contact the adult & continuing education department.
