SWCC TRIO-Student Support Services Mission Statement:

“The TRIO-Student Support Services program at Southwestern Community College enhances the institution’s commitment to first-generation, low-income students and students with disabilities by encouraging students to strive toward their academic and personal goals.  SSS provides support services designed to increase retention, graduation, and transfer rates.”

Important note during period TRIO-Student Support Services offices are not open to the public:

We, at TRIO, are working diligently to make sure that this change in location doesn’t mean a change in services for you. We know that attending your classes online instead of face-to-face is a big change that may have some of you wondering how it all works. Be assured that while our campus is closed to students and the public, Laurie, Mary, Taylor and Laura are still working.

We can help you with the following:

  1. Tutoring needs – scheduling and online set up
  2. Advisor visits – Over the phone, email, and text
  3. Transfer advising
  4. Career advice
  5. General support during this stressful time
  6. Class registration
  7. Finding answers for your SWCC questions

You may reach out to us by calling 641.782.1360 from 8 a.m.– 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. One of us will be in the office every day of the week to help you. You can also email using our contact information on this site.

We will be reaching out to you via email and text, so please keep checking your email at least once a day and responding to texts. We want to make sure you get the most of your education even with the curveball the world has thrown at us all.

TRIO-Student Support Services is funded 100 percent ($301,980) by the U.S. Department of Education and serves 180 participants every academic year.  All services are FREE!  To be eligible for Student Support Services, students must meet at least one of the following:

  • First generation college student- (Neither parent has a four-year college degree) or
  • Low-income individual- (Based on Federal Financial Aid/Taxable Income) or
  • Student with a documented disability.

TRIO-SSS Advising Philosophy:

Quality advising is instructional in nature and involves a commitment to establishing a collaborative partnership between the advisor and the advisee. The ongoing advising relationship focuses on promoting academic, personal, and career success.
