Creston—The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of trustees met electronically on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at 5:30 p.m., for their regular monthly board meeting. The meeting was held electronically due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The board approved an early retirement request from Jolene Griffith, director of human resources. Griffith has served as the college’s human resources director for the past 17 years. Her last day at the college will be April 9, 2021.

During the president’s report, Dr. Barb Crittenden, SWCC president, told the board the spring 2021 semester began on Monday, Jan. 11. Crittenden said COVID-19 protocols continue to be in place for this semester.

Crittenden told the board a vehicle had been purchased for instructional purposes in the criminal justice program. The department will utilize the vehicle for lab simulations.

Jerry Smith, board member from Osceola and Iowa Association of Community College Trustees (IACCT) representative, reported he will attend the next IACCT meeting at the end of the month.
