Dr. Barb Crittenden, SWCC president; Tessa Powers of Creston, All-Iowa Academic Team honoree; Jill Wallace of Greenfield, All-Iowa Academic Team honoree; and Jody Nedley-Newcomb, SWCC Phi Theta Kappa advisor.

Southwestern Community College (SWCC) students Tessa Powers of Creston and Jill Wallace of Greenfield were honored as members of the 2021 All-Iowa Academic Team during a virtual recognition ceremony sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society in March.

Powers, a sophomore at SWCC, is an arts and sciences transfer student. During her time at SWCC, she has been named to the President’s List each semester and received the PTK Iowa Region Outstanding Student Leader Award. She is currently the vice president of Beta Eta Nu, SWCC’s PTK chapter, and has completed all four PTK Edge courses. She is working toward her Associate of Arts degree and following graduation this spring plans to transfer to Iowa State University in Ames and major in finance.

Wallace, a sophomore at SWCC, is an arts and sciences transfer student. During her time at SWCC, she has been named to the President’s List each semester and received the PTK Coca Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship. She is currently president of Beta Eta Nu and completed one PTK Edge course. Wallace plans to earn her Associate of Arts degree from SWCC and transfer to Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines. Her goal is to become a nurse practitioner in the field of dermatology.

PTK International serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students worldwide. Jody Nedley-Newcomb, sociology instructor, and Dr. Dan Platt, English instructor, are advisors for SWCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter.
